Tesla Supercharging Hits Overdrive: 2,500 New Stalls Opened in Q1
Tesla’s Supercharger network continues to cement its position as the global backbone for electric vehicle travel, posting record-breaking statistics for the first quarter of 2026. According to the latest data, Tesla opened 2,500 new Supercharger stalls in Q1 alone, representing a 19% year-over-year growth in the network’s footprint.
The utilization of the network is scaling even faster than the hardware. Tesla delivered a massive 1.8 TWh of energy to drivers this quarter—a 22% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge in energy delivery translates to roughly 823 million litres of gasoline saved and 3.4 billion kilograms of CO2 emissions avoided, underscoring the network’s role in Sweden’s and the world’s energy transition.
The rapid expansion is fueled by a high-precision deployment strategy. Over the last 12 months, Tesla’s charging team interconnected 1.4 GW of capacity across more than 450 unique utilities worldwide. This massive coordination effort has enabled the network to handle 53 million quarterly charging sessions, up 26% year-over-year.
While the technical stats are impressive, Tesla also highlighted a more human side of the charging experience. The company reported a 100% increase in what they call the Brain Charge, logging 9,800 Tesla milkshakes (Tesla Diner anyone?) served at branded locations during the quarter.
This growth in lifestyle charging amenities comes as Tesla continues to roll out its V4 Supercharger posts, which feature longer cables and integrated payment terminals to better accommodate non-Tesla EVs. As the network matures, Tesla is proving that it can maintain its lead as the most affordable and reliable charging infrastructure while scaling at a pace that few competitors can match.
Earlier today, Tesla announced its production and delivery numbers for Q1, seeing some positive changes compared to a year ago.
