50% of Tesla FSD Users on Lemonade Insurance are Now Fully Autonomous
New data from AI-powered insurer Lemonade reveals a massive shift in how Tesla owners use Full Self-Driving (FSD). According to Shai Wininger, co-founder and president of Lemonade, the company’s customers are increasingly handing over the steering wheel to the software.
The data highlights a growing confidence in the technology, which has seen a surge in usage throughout early 2026. Sharing the findings on X yesterday, Wininger noted the high adoption rate among the company’s client base. “Our data shows that 50% of @Tesla FSD + @Lemonade_Inc users let it drive autonomously 90-100% of the time,” said Wininger. He added that the trend was “Impressive, @elonmusk!”
The surge in autonomous miles is driven by a unique technical partnership between the two companies that launched in January 2026. Lemonade’s autonomous car insurance program is the first of its kind to integrate directly with Tesla’s vehicle telemetry via the Tesla Fleet API. This integration allows the insurer to distinguish at the mile level between when a human is driving and when FSD is active.
Because Tesla’s safety data indicates that FSD is approximately twice as safe as manual driving, Lemonade offers a significant discount on every mile driven using the software. The more a driver uses FSD, the lower their monthly premium becomes. This program is currently available to Tesla owners with Hardware 4 which is the one that can only access the latest FSD version 14.
As of March 2026, the specialized FSD insurance is live in states like Arizona and Oregon, with plans for further expansion across North America. The data follows a record-breaking start to the year for Tesla, with the global fleet logging over one billion FSD miles in the first 50 days of 2026 alone.
