A mysterious shipment spotted at Tesla’s Giga Texas factory on Monday has sparked intense speculation about a new vehicle variant. Drone pilot Joe Tegtmeyer captured footage of a large crated vehicle body sitting among pallets and construction materials outside the Austin facility.
The shape of the hidden frame features a sloping roofline and an elongated body. These specific dimensions have led many observers to believe the crate contains the Model Y L. This version of Tesla’s popular electric SUV features an extended wheelbase designed to comfortably fit six or seven passengers.
While this larger Model Y L is already helping to boost sales in China, it is also scheduled to launch in Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea and also Thailand. Some reports suggest it could arrive in the European market soon. Elon Musk has previously hinted that American production for a similar model might not begin until late 2026 because the company is currently focused on ramping up the Cybertruck.
Not everyone is convinced this is a Model Y L variant. Some skeptics pointed out that the rear height of the frame in the crate looks different from known images of the Chinese version. This has led to alternative theories that the mystery vehicle could be a prototype for a Tesla minivan or a larger commercial hauler. Tesla minivan? Take my money.
