Tesla Model Y RWD Now Qualifies for Canada’s $5,000 EVAP Rebate
Tesla has updated its website to now include the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) as part of Canada’s new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP).
This change means Canadian buyers can now access a $5,000 CAD incentive on one of the most popular electric SUVs in the country.
The qualification is a result of the Model Y RWD hitting the strict price targets set by the federal government. To be eligible for the EVAP rebate, a vehicle must have a total transaction price under $50,000 before taxes, freight, and government fees are added.
For those looking to get behind the wheel, the $5,000 incentive applies fully to cash purchases or financed deals. This amount is applied after taxes, providing a direct reduction in the total cost of ownership for the entry-level Tesla.
Estimated delivery dates are showing 4-6 weeks. Also, all paint colours are showing as free, which is amazing.
Understanding the EVAP Lease Structure
While cash and finance buyers get the full $5,000, those choosing to lease the Model Y RWD will see the incentive amount prorated based on how long they keep the vehicle. Tesla has outlined the following breakdown for lease durations:
This tiered approach is designed to encourage longer-term adoption of electric vehicles while still providing support for shorter lease cycles.
To get the discount, you need to tick off the box on the order page that says, “$5000 EVAP Incentive”, then you’ll see the price drop down to $44,990 CAD, or $47,616 CAD after $2,500 freight and PDI fee, $100 excise tax on air conditioners, and $26 tire fee. That falls below the $50,000 CAD threshold and qualifies.
In Quebec, you can save another $2,000 CAD thanks to the provincial EV rebate, taking it down to $42,990 CAD. That’s pretty incredible.
The Shift from iZEV to EVAP
The EVAP program was introduced earlier this year as a replacement for the long-standing iZEV program. While the previous system focused heavily on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), the EVAP looks at the total transaction price, which includes options and accessories.
By ensuring the Model Y RWD stays under that $50,000 threshold, Tesla is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the Canadian market as the government pushes for zero-emission vehicle targets. The Model Y RWD currently offers an estimated range of 463 kilometres and remains the most affordable way to enter the Tesla ecosystem.
