Tesla App Leak: New V2G Feature Lets Your Car Earn You Money
A massive deep dive into the latest Tesla app code by @Tesla_App_iOS has revealed that the company is preparing to turn its vehicles into a source of income for owners. The discovery centers on Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities, allowing Tesla EVs to feed power back into the electrical grid during peak demand.
Tesla Electric and the V2G Revolution
New code strings confirm that Tesla’s Powershare technology is moving beyond simple home backup. A new live data connection will allow the app to show real-time status as your vehicle discharges power to the grid. Owners enrolled in the Tesla Electric plan will receive notifications explaining how to earn money or bill credits by supporting the grid during high-demand events like summer heatwaves.
The app will automatically check for eligibility, looking for a Cybertruck or future compatible model, Powershare hardware, and an active Tesla Electric subscription. Importantly, users will have total control with a dedicated opt out button. If you have a long drive planned for the next morning, you can stop a grid event with one tap to ensure your battery remains full.
Voyager Next-Gen Trip Planning
The update also reveals an internal project codenamed Voyager, which appears to be a complete overhaul of Tesla’s navigation system. This new routing engine suggests a much more robust experience than the current app, potentially offering multi-stop itineraries and detailed tracking for elevation or weather.
The code includes hardware checks to see if a vehicle supports Voyager, hinting that this advanced feature might be limited to newer Teslas with Ryzen processors or the Cybertruck. This move seems aimed directly at third-party tools like A Better Routeplanner, bringing enthusiast-level trip customization natively into the Tesla ecosystem.
Tesla Insurance and Quality of Life Updates
Tesla is also refining its insurance interface with a new banner carousel that allows users to swipe through multiple policies or vehicles easily. A major addition is the native digital ID card system. Instead of just viewing a static PDF, the app will now fetch and download proof of insurance for offline access, ensuring you can show your credentials even in areas with no cellular service.
