Tesla Model Y 7-Seater Returns to Europe on Premium AWD
Tesla has officially brought back the seven-seat configuration for the Model Y in Europe. The highly requested third row is now available to order, but it is exclusively locked to the Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive model.
Customers in countries like Germany, France, Spain, and the Netherlands can now add the two forward-facing jump seats to their builds for an additional €2,500. According to Tesla’s regional configurators, deliveries for these new seven-seat configurations are expected to begin between April and May of 2026.
For some background, this is not the first time European buyers have seen this option. Tesla briefly offered a seven-seat layout on the older legacy Model Y in late 2024. However, that option quietly vanished when the heavily updated Juniper refresh launched in early 2025. Now, over a year later, the third row has finally been integrated into the newer Juniper production lines at Giga Berlin.
When you fold the third row down, the cargo space is virtually identical to the standard five-seat version at 894 litres. If you have all seven seats upright, you are left with about 381 litres of trunk space, which is just enough room for a couple of standard carry-on suitcases.
As someone who drives a 2020 Model Y AWD every day with my family, I can tell you that the standard wheelbase does not offer a ton of extra room in the far back. Those rear seats are really only practical for small kids. That is exactly why many buyers are still holding out hope that the stretched Model YL, which features a much longer wheelbase and is currently sold in China, will eventually make its way to global markets.
Until then, this is the only way to squeeze seven people into a Model Y without stepping up to a much more expensive Model X (well, if you can get one before it disappears for good).
If you are curious about how the tight space actually looks in practice, you can watch this Tesla Model Y 7 Seat Option video to see a full walkthrough of the European model’s interior layout.
