Tesla Owners in Australia and NZ Get Grok AI Upgrade: Here is How to Activate It

Tesla has begun rolling out its advanced AI assistant Grok to vehicles in Australia and New Zealand, marking a significant upgrade for local Tesla owners. Earlier this month, Grok started its rollout to cars in Europe.

The feature arrived on February 24, 2026, through an over-the-air software update (version 2026.2.6.1 or similar, with some sources noting 2025.26+ compatibility). Tesla Australia and New Zealand announced the phased rollout, starting with vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 (HW3) and AMD Ryzen processors (MCU3 infotainment systems).

Newer Hardware4 (HW4) vehicles are expected to follow in the coming days or weeks. Grok, developed by xAI, serves as a conversational in-car assistant. It allows drivers to ask almost any question using real-time information, while also handling natural-language navigation commands. Owners can speak hands-free to add or edit destinations, search for nearby spots like restaurants or Superchargers, or plan routes—making it a more intuitive personal guide compared to traditional voice systems.

To access Grok, vehicles need:

  • An AMD processor
  • Software version 2025.26 or later
  • Premium Connectivity or an active Wi-Fi connection

The assistant offers customizable personalities and voices, and it’s currently in beta. This rollout follows similar launches in North America and Europe, continuing Tesla’s push to expand Grok internationally. Tesla owners in Australia and New Zealand should check their Tesla app for update notifications as the deployment continues in waves. This integration brings cutting-edge AI directly into the driving experience Down Under.
