Tesla Updates FSD with New “Hands Ready” Visual Prompt

Tesla is refining its vehicle communication with a new visual cue found in the latest software builds. The update is designed to ensure drivers remain prepared to take over during autonomous maneuvers.

The new prompt displays a prominent message on the touchscreen stating, “Keep your hands ready to steer.” This visual warning appears directly within the Full Self-Driving (FSD) visualization on the display. While initially spotted in FSD v14.2.2.4 (firmware version 2025.45.9), it has also been observed in earlier v14.2 releases.

This change is part of an ongoing effort to improve the Tesla Vision-based system. By relying on cameras to interpret the environment, the software is becoming more context-aware. The system appears to adjust the level of driver attention required based on road complexity. For instance, warnings may trigger more frequently at busy intersections compared to empty parking lots.

As of early 2026, the FSD user base has grown to approximately 1.1 million vehicles. These ongoing software tweaks serve as a bridge as the company moves toward unsupervised autonomy. By placing the warning directly in the visualization, Tesla is making safety prompts harder to overlook than traditional icons.
