SpaceX Brings Free Starlink Dish Rentals to Canada

SpaceX has launched a new Starlink deal in Canada that lets new customers get free hardware rentals for a limited time. The promo includes a Starlink Standard kit, which comes with the company’s Standard dish and Gen 3 Wi-Fi router, and appears to be available across Canada (we were able to verify eligibility for several addresses across different provinces).

Under the new offer, Starlink is waiving its usual $499 CAD upfront hardware cost and letting new customers rent the Standard Starlink kit for $0 per month. All you need to pay is $19 for shipping and handling, plus applicable taxes. According to Starlink’s website, the deal is available on a 30-day trial, with no contracts and estimated shipping within one to two weeks. Customers will be required to return the rented hardware if and when they cancel service.

This promotion applies to the Starlink Residential plan, which offers unlimited data and advertises download speeds of up to 400 Mbps, with real-world speeds typically averaging between 135–305 Mbps and uploads around 20–40 Mbps. The service costs $110 per month for the Residential Lite option (where available) with unlimited, deprioritized data or $140 per month for the full Residential plan.

In some regions (likely those with excess capacity), the company is offering even lower rates — as low as $90 per month for Residential Lite and $115 per month for Residential — for the first year of service.

The free hardware rental offer mirrors a similar promotion SpaceX rolled out earlier this month in select U.S. states, although unlike that one, the Canadian version doesn’t include free professional installation. The move aligns with traditional telecom tactics that give customers free or subsidized equipment in exchange for remaining subscribed to the service.

Earlier this year, Starlink cut the price of its Standard kit from $599 to $249 in Canada and previously offered free hardware for those committing to a 12-month subscription. More recently, some longtime Residential users in the country have been offered free Starlink Mini dishes to use with Roam plans for mobile connectivity.

As of July, Starlink boasts over 500,000 users in Canada, supported by the company’s ever-growing constellation of over 8,500 satellites in low Earth orbit. The free rental offer appears to be available across much of the country, but prospective customers should check their address on Starlink’s website to confirm eligibility.
