Tesla has officially hit a major production milestone at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The automaker announced on Wednesday that the facility has now built its 500,000th vehicle, marking a significant achievement for one of Tesla’s most important production sites.
“Congratulations to the Giga Texas team for building 500k vehicles,” the official Tesla Manufacturing account (@gigafactories) posted on X.
The milestone comes as Tesla continues ramping up production at Giga Texas to meet growing demand in the United States. The company accelerated output throughout the third quarter amid a rush of orders ahead of the September 30 expiry of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit in the U.S.
Gigafactory Texas — home to production of the Model Y, Cybertruck, and the upcoming Cybercab —has been a cornerstone of Tesla’s North American manufacturing strategy since opening in 2022. The site celebrated building its 400,000th Model Y back in April and has since expanded operations with new paint, body, and delivery facilities to boost throughput and streamline logistics.

In June, Tesla also made headlines when it conducted the world’s first fully autonomous vehicle delivery from Giga Texas, showcasing the company’s progress toward end-to-end automation. Just a few months later, in late September, Tesla opened a new on-site delivery center with an end-of-quarter event highlighting customer handovers directly from the factory.
Reaching half a million vehicles produced in under three years underscores the pace at which Tesla has scaled its U.S. operations. With a new, cheaper Model Y Standard trim entering production alongside preparations to start building the Cybercab, output from Giga Texas is expected to climb even higher through 2026.
The milestone also reflects Tesla’s growing manufacturing footprint worldwide, with sister factories in Fremont, Berlin, and Shanghai all achieving their own landmark production numbers this year.
