Tesla Launches Winter Tire Packages for Model S, X, and Y

Tesla has started offering new winter wheel and tire packages for the Model S, Model X, and Model Y through its official online shop. The announcement was made by Tesla North America (@tesla_na) on X, alongside a video comparing stopping distances between summer and winter tires on snow. Unsurprisingly, the Tesla on summer tires took far longer to come to a complete stop than the one fitted with dedicated winter tires.
It’s important to note that summer tires are not designed for snow or ice. While all-season tires do a considerably better job than summer tires in snowy or icy conditions, dedicated winter tires remain the gold standard if you expect to do a lot of driving in harsh winter climates. Winter tires use specialized tread patterns and rubber compounds that maintain flexibility in freezing temperatures, improving traction, braking, and overall safety.
Tesla’s winter wheel and tire packages start at $2,500 for the 19″ Gemini Wheel and Winter Tire Package, designed for Model Y vehicles built between 2020 and 2024. Each package includes four wheels, four winter tires, and accessories like tire pressure sensors. Similar packages are available for Model S and Model X owners as well.

Beyond equipping winter tires, there are other ways Tesla owners can optimize cold-weather performance. Preconditioning the cabin before entering the vehicle not only warms the interior but also helps improve battery efficiency in cold temperatures. Tesla owners can manage this directly through the mobile app, ensuring the car is comfortable and ready to go even on the coldest days.
As winter approaches, Tesla is reminding drivers that the right tire choice makes a big difference in safety and handling. With these new packages now available on the Tesla Shop, owners can prepare their EVs for snowy driving conditions.
