Tesla Launches Frunk Lighting Upgrade for Model 3, Y

Tesla has just started offering a new ambient LED lighting upgrade for the front trunk — or frunk — of the Model 3 and Model Y, now available in the U.S. for $100 USD.
The OEM lighting strip is designed to improve visibility and make the frunk more functional, especially in low-light conditions. Whether you’re loading groceries at night or reaching for gear during a road trip, the added illumination makes the frunk much more usable.
Tesla says the LED lighting strip is easy to install and connects directly to the vehicle’s power supply — no batteries or splicing required. The strip also includes a built-in constant current control module for reliable, even lighting. Rated IP67, the strip is both dustproof and waterproof, ensuring long-term durability in all kinds of weather.

While an easy DIY install, the product listing on Tesla’s online store clarifies compatibility as follows:
- Model 3: Only compatible with units produced in 2024 and later
- Model Y: Compatible with units produced between 2020 and 2024
That’s an important caveat for anyone driving an older Model 3, as you won’t be able to install the frunk lighting upgrade without additional modifications.
This latest accessory joins Tesla’s growing catalog of factory-approved upgrades aimed at enhancing convenience and functionality without sacrificing aesthetics or requiring third-party solutions.
If you’ve been wanting more practical lighting in your Tesla’s frunk, this $100 add-on might just be the simple, clean OEM solution you’ve been waiting for. It is also available in Canada and China.
