Tesla has officially appeared on the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles’ list of “Known AV Operators in Austin”—a move that confirms the company is actively testing autonomous vehicles in the city.
We know that Tesla is rumoured to launch its robotaxi network in Austin on June 12 this week.
X user @TeslaYoda first noticed the update on June 9, stating they check the DMV page daily, and this is the first time Tesla has been listed.
The list includes other major players in the autonomous vehicle space, such as Waymo (Alphabet), Zoox (Amazon), and Motional (Hyundai). Tesla’s designation is marked under the “Testing” phase, with a contact email for media inquiries: pr***@***la.com.
Tesla joins six other AV operators listed on the DMV page:
- ADMT (Volkswagen)
- AVRide (AVRide Inc.)
- Motional (Hyundai)
- Waymo (Alphabet, listed as in Deployment)
- Zoox (Amazon)
- Tesla (now officially confirmed)
This subtle addition could signal a step forward in Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) ambitions in Texas, where AV development continues to attract heavy industry activity.
