U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly thinking about parting ways with his red Tesla — a Model S Plaid he bought earlier this year as a show of support for Elon Musk.
According to a senior White House official who spoke to Barron’s, Trump is considering either selling or giving away the car. As of Friday morning, it was still parked at the White House.
Trump purchased the high-performance electric sedan, which retails for about $95,000, on March 11 after a public event with Musk. Standing alongside Musk and his son X, Trump praised the vehicle and Musk, calling the car a “great product” and saying the Tesla CEO had “been treated very unfairly by a very small group of people.”
The potential removal of the car could signal again the cooling of the once-warm relationship between the two billionaires, especially after yesterday’s ugly public spat.
Shares of Tesla have gone up today 5.79%, after plunging nearly 15% yesterday at the height of the dispute between Musk and Trump.
