Starlink Offers Free Internet to Canadians Affected by Wildfires

SpaceX’s Starlink is providing one month of free internet service to help Canadians impacted by ongoing wildfires.

The company says it has automatically credited existing active customers in affected regions—no action is needed. People who had previously cancelled or paused their service will also receive a credit equal to their old plan, which they can use by reactivating their account.

For new customers in wildfire zones, Starlink says to contact support after purchasing a kit to get free service through July 5, 2025.

Anyone whose Starlink equipment was damaged by the fires can also contact the company for a free replacement.

During wildfires, existing network infrastructure can get taken offline, as fibre optic cables can get destroyed or damaged, along with cell towers and power lines. Starlink, being a satellite-based internet, can solve all of this as customers just need to be able to power their Starlink dishes and point it at the sky.
