Tesla Highlights Storm Protection Features with Powerwall [VIDEO]

Tesla has released a new video on its YouTube channel called Outage Protection, showcasing how its Powerwall battery system helps homeowners stay prepared during extreme weather and power outages.

The feature, known as Storm Watch, automatically charges the Powerwall to 100% when severe weather is forecasted in the user’s area. Tesla says it pulls data from regional weather services—like the National Weather Service in the U.S.—to predict when storms might impact the power grid.

“Storm Watch kicks in to make sure your Powerwall is fully charged before a storm hits,” a Tesla engineer explains in the video. “It’s especially useful because you never know if an outage will last a few seconds or several days.”

Tesla says Storm Watch was triggered for 2.8 million weather events over the past year. Most customers don’t realize the power has gone out until they get a push notification from the Tesla app, the company claims.

Users can see a banner in the app when Storm Watch is active, view storm details, monitor charging progress, and get notified when their Powerwall is fully charged. Tesla also offers scheduled charging for those who want to prepare ahead of forecasted events.

Even if cell networks go down, users can still monitor their Powerwall at home thanks to a local offline monitoring feature, which keeps the app connected via the home’s Wi-Fi router.

Tesla says Powerwall users can feel confident they’ll have power for essential needs like lighting, refrigeration, and heating or cooling during outages. Check out the video below:
