In the early hours of March 31, 2025, Tesla Manufacturing announced a significant achievement at its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, commonly known as Giga Berlin.

The facility has now produced its 500,000th Tesla Model Y, marking a key milestone in the company’s European production journey. The announcement, shared via a succinct post on X stating, “500.000 Model Y built at Giga Berlin,” underscores Tesla’s growing presence in the region since the factory’s inception. A picture showed staff surrounding a new Model Y, with balloons spelling out “500,000” and confetti in the air.

Giga Berlin, which officially opened its doors in March 2022, has steadily ramped up production of the all-electric Model Y crossover, contributing significantly to Tesla’s global output. The facility’s progress has been notable despite initial delays due to regulatory hurdles and environmental concerns. This latest milestone comes just over three years after the factory’s first Model Y rolled off the production line, highlighting an impressive acceleration in manufacturing capacity.

The New Model Y and Its Rollout

Coinciding with this production milestone, Tesla has begun rolling out the new Model Y, which introduces several upgrades aimed at enhancing comfort, safety, and performance. Unveiled in China on January 9, 2025, the new Model Y features ventilated front seats, a rear-seat infotainment screen (just like the refreshed Model 3), a softer suspension, blind-spot monitors, new wheels, quieter tires, and improved sound insulation. This refresh, the first major update since the Model Y’s debut in 2020, aligns with design enhancements previously introduced to the Model 3 in 2023.

The ‘Juniper’ Model Y rollout began with production at Giga Shanghai, where Tesla received over 100,000 orders within two weeks of its launch in China, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Production of the new Model Y started at Giga Berlin in mid-January 2025, with the first unit completed on January 14 as a commemorative vehicle signed by the factory’s 12,000 employees. European deliveries are expected to start soon, though Tesla has yet to open orders for the refreshed model in the region, continuing to sell the previous version for now.

In the U.S. and Canada, deliveries of the special ‘Launch Edition’ Model Y, featuring exclusive badging and Full Self-Driving capabilities, began in late March from Giga Texas and California factories.

Tesla’s Giga Berlin continues to play a pivotal role in the company’s global strategy, with plans to eventually scale production to 1 million vehicles annually. The rapid pace of the new Model Y rollout and the factory’s latest milestone signal a strong trajectory for Tesla as it aims to maintain its lead in the EV market.
