Tesla Hits 7 Million Cars, Teases Robot Future in All-Hands Keynote
Tesla held its first live-streamed, company-wide all-hands keynote in Q1 2025, offering an inside look at the company’s progress, challenges, and bold ambitions for the future. The presentation, led by CEO Elon Musk and streamed from Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas, highlighted the company’s strategy to deliver “sustainable abundance” through advanced AI, clean energy, autonomous vehicles, and humanoid robotics.
7 Million Vehicles Produced, 10 Million by 2026
Tesla has surpassed 7 million electric vehicles built to date, up from just 20 in its first year of production. Musk noted that Tesla is on track to hit the 10 million vehicle milestone by next year, underscoring its ability to scale quickly. Model Y remains the world’s best-selling car for a second year in a row, while Cybertruck instantly became the top-selling electric pickup after its release.
Full Self-Driving and Autonomy
Tesla confirmed that nearly all of its 10 million vehicles will be capable of Full Self-Driving (FSD) once regulatory approvals are in place. Musk predicted this will happen within five years. FSD-equipped Teslas will dramatically increase fleet efficiency, potentially allowing a car to be used up to 10 times more than a human-driven vehicle. Tesla also revealed that its latest AI hardware platform, AI4, remains unmatched in the industry and is already being integrated into the fleet. Hardware 5 and 6 are in development.
Dojo and AI Training
Tesla’s Dojo supercomputer is now operational, handling around 5-10% of Tesla’s AI training workload. Tesla’s Cortex One data center now runs over 50,000 GPUs, with plans to double that soon. This vast computing power trains Tesla’s real-world AI systems used in both FSD and its humanoid robot, Optimus.
Optimus: The Future of Robotics
Tesla announced it is manufacturing the latest version of its humanoid robot, Optimus, featuring a 22-degree-of-freedom hand and advanced AI. The company expects to build at least 5,000 Optimus units this year, potentially scaling to 50,000 in 2026. Optimus will be sold to employees first and is expected to eventually handle home tasks, manufacturing work, and more. Musk called Optimus the “biggest product of all time” and predicted it will surpass all existing product categories in scale and economic value.
Energy and Infrastructure Expansion
Tesla continues to ramp up its solar and battery storage operations. Powerwall 3 is now available, allowing homes to maintain power during outages. Megapacks are being deployed globally to stabilize power grids and increase electricity availability. Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai has already reached 3 million vehicles produced and its new Megapack factory in China was completed in record time.
Manufacturing Innovation
Tesla is accelerating manufacturing capabilities with innovations such as high-speed casting machines and the development of the Cybercab production line. The new system could eventually produce a car in under five seconds. Tesla also teased a future generation of ultra-large casting machines.
Supercharging and Service
Tesla’s Supercharger network has expanded significantly, enabling easy road trips across North America, Europe, and Asia. The new V4 Supercharger enables charging speeds up to 500 kW, with Tesla Semi trucks charging at 1.2 megawatts. Musk also emphasized the importance of Tesla’s service experience, calling on employees to deliver exceptional customer care.
Vision for the Future: Sustainable Abundance and AI-Driven Prosperity
Musk described Tesla’s evolving mission as delivering “sustainable abundance”—a world where goods and services are available to everyone through a combination of autonomous technology, solar energy, battery storage, and robotics. He envisioned a future where anyone could have what they want without compromising nature, powered by clean energy and supported by intelligent machines.
“If you combine solar, batteries, robotics, and AI, you get a future where we can all live sustainably and abundantly,” Musk said. “That’s what we’re building.”
