2025.8.3 Release Notes: Tesla Battery Health Test is Here
Tesla has started rolling out its 2025.8.3 software update and it includes updates for the Consumption page, battery energy estimates and also a new Battery Health Test.
What does the Battery Health Test do? You run the test and it tells you how much retention your battery has now, compared to when it was new. Here is the text from the Battery Health screen:
Your battery’s energy retention is within the expected range based on its age and mileage.
Like all rechargeable batteries, your vehicle’s high-voltage battery becomes less effective over time with age and use. To help maintain energy retention, keep your vehicle plugged in when not in use and charge it to the recommended limit. For more details, refer to the Owner’s Manual.
You can optionally run a Battery Health Test to compare your battery’s current energy retention to when it was new. To perform this test, your vehicle must remain connected to an AC charging station for up to 18 hours. Once complete, the range estimate displayed in your vehicle may be recalibrated.
Test results are valid for up to six months. After they expire, you will have the option to run a new test.
Now, before you start the test, here is the warning message from Tesla:
To complete the Battery Health Test, your vehicle must remain connected to an AC charging station for up to 18 hours. Tesla recommends using a Tesla Wall Connector or Mobile Connector, as third-party and pay-per-use AC chargers may cause the test to fail or produce unexpected results.
During the test, your vehicle’s battery will discharge to below 10% and then recharge to 100%. Climate control systems will be temporarily disabled, and most vehicle features will be unavailable. Do not leave occupants unattended.
Avoid interacting with your vehicle or the Tesla app during the test. You can cancel the test at any time using the vehicle’s touchscreen or the Tesla app. If the test fails or is canceled, the vehicle will attempt to charge back to the set limit.
