Tesla Rebates Axed in B.C.—Premier Says It’ll Make You Wanna Throw Up

Tesla products are now officially out of B.C.’s Electric Vehicle (EV) rebate program for chargers and battery storage.

As of March 12, 2025, Tesla chargers, batteries, and inverters no longer qualify for rebates under the CleanBC and BC Hydro programs, according to an update on its website.

If you bought a Tesla product or got pre-approval before this date, you’ll still receive your rebate. But for anyone else, the full cost is now out of pocket. That includes the popular Tesla Wall Connector, which retails for $580 CAD. Previously, the rebate covered up to 50% of installation costs, up to $350 CAD.

The B.C. government in Canada says the move supports Canadian-made products and reduces reliance on U.S. goods. The rebate website now clearly states, “Tesla products are not eligible.”

Premier David Eby didn’t hold back, saying, “I think that if British Columbians heard that $10,000 of taxpayer money was going to Elon Musk, they’d wanna throw up.” The video is below:

This change comes amid an escalating tariff war. B.C. liquor stores have also pulled U.S. liquor from states with Republican governors. Meanwhile, Canada and China continue to trade tariffs, with Canada imposing a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs and China responding with heavy tariffs on Canadian agricultural goods.

B.C.’s Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island has some of the highest concentrations of Tesla vehicles. Other U.S. charging brands still qualify for the rebates. Go figure.
