Elon Musk’s xAI Launches Grok 3: World’s Smartest AI Right Now

Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has unveiled Grok 3, a new AI model that has quickly made headlines. Grok 3 has surpassed previous records in the LM Arena, an AI ranking system, by scoring over 1400 points, positioning it as the top-rated AI model currently available.

The model was trained using xAI’s Colossus supercomputer, which features over 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, providing 10x more compute power than what was used for Grok 2. This massive computational resource has helped Grok 3 to process large datasets more efficiently, reducing training times and enhancing accuracy.

Grok 3 features advanced reasoning abilities that may surpass other AI models in logical problem-solving. It also supports multimodal functions, allowing it to process and analyze both text and images, with potential capabilities in audio and video generation.

Like its predecessor, Grok 3 can retrieve real-time information, making it useful for up-to-date queries. Additionally, there are mentions of an “Unhinged Mode” designed for more controversial or unfiltered responses, though details on how it functions remain unclear.

AI expert Andrej Karpathy, Tesla’s former AI chief and from OpenAI, conducted early tests on Grok 3. He found the model to be highly advanced in areas such as problem-solving, coding, and research tasks.

For instance, Grok 3 successfully generated a webpage mimicking the Settlers of Catan board game and adeptly handled complex research questions. However, Karpathy noted that the model still faces challenges with humor, ethical dilemmas, and certain creative tasks, such as generating an accurate image of a pelican riding a bicycle.

Grok 3 is now accessible to X Premium+ subscribers (the pricing increased in the USA). Additionally, Palantir is integrating Grok 3 into its business applications, expanding its utility in enterprise environments.
