Tesla’s upcoming Full Self-Driving (FSD) update for version 12.6 for Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) vehicles, will soon enable vehicles to reverse autonomously, according to Elon Musk.
The announcement came in response to a user praising the current system while noting its limitations.
One driver shared their experience with FSD 12.6, saying, “It blew me away. It even positioned me perfectly to reverse into a parking spot at Safeway, but since it can’t reverse yet, I had to shift and press the pedal myself. It also feels like it reads my mind with lane changes—the blinker activates before I even reach the stalk!”
Musk humorously replied, “It must stress the AI out so much that it isn’t allowed to reverse yet! It will soon though.”
Tesla’s official Cybertruck account replied, “It’s like an itch I can’t scratch,” referring to the system’s desire to park but its inability to reverse on its own.
The addition of reverse functionality to Tesla’s FSD 12.6 will match a feature that’s been available for FSD 13.2, which so far has only made its way to Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) vehicles.

They keep giving HW3 owners scraps to keep them happy(er). HW3 will never be able to support full fsd and the HW3 cameras may well have to be replaced as well. They can't 'see' far enough ahead to support HW4.
