Elon Musk announced that Tesla is deploying Cybertrucks equipped with Starlink terminals to assist areas in Los Angeles and Malibu affected by wildfires.

These trucks are being used as mobile base stations to provide free WiFi and power in zones lacking connectivity. Musk apologized to customers awaiting Cybertruck deliveries, promising new vehicles by the end of the week.

“Apologies to those expecting Cybertruck deliveries in California over the next few days. We need to use those trucks as mobile base stations to provide power to Starlink Internet terminals in areas of LA without connectivity. A new truck will be delivered end of week,” said Musk.

“We are going to position Cybertrucks with Starlinks and free WiFi in a grid pattern in the areas that most need it in the greater LA/Malibu area,” he added later.

Tesla detailed its broader relief efforts, which include supporting employees who lost their homes with housing, meals, and transportation.

Most Tesla Supercharger stations are back online, except for one in Pasadena. Megapack Chargers have been deployed to Thousand Oaks and Altadena to assist evacuees and first responders.

Mobile Powerwall Units have been installed in partnership with nonprofits in Altadena and Topanga Canyon, offering power for devices and refrigerators.

Several Cybertrucks are stationed at key locations, including the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in Altadena, Pasadena, Zuma Beach, and Malibu, stocked with essentials like water and snacks.

With the Cybertruck’s huge battery, it should be able to power Starlink for a long time. Starlink is a game-changer in emergencies as regular cell towers are usually down.
