Tesla Winter Driving Tips: How to Optimize Performance in Cold Weather
Tesla has outlined key tips for optimizing its electric vehicles during winter, emphasizing features designed to improve driving in cold conditions. The company sent an email this morning that says, “Take on the Rain, Sleet and Snow.”
All Tesla models come equipped with systems like dynamic traction control, equal weight distribution, and advanced thermal performance for better handling in snow and ice.
In colder temperatures, Tesla advises keeping vehicles plugged in to precondition the cabin and battery using external power, reducing energy use from the battery itself. Features like Scheduled Departure and preheating via the Tesla app ensure your car is ready with a full charge and warm interior when you start driving. This is the best feature to make sure you never enter a cold car.
Drivers are encouraged to use the updated Energy app, which monitors real-time and projected energy usage, and to keep the battery above 20% to prevent range loss from extreme cold. A blue snowflake icon will alert users if the battery is too cold for full performance.
Tesla also recommends preparing for icy conditions by placing wipers in service mode, defrosting frozen handles or mirrors, and clearing Autopilot sensors for optimal function. Winter tires and accessories like snow chains and washer fluid designed for cold temperatures can further improve performance and safety.
While places like California where Tesla’s Fremont factory is located does not have to deal with winter weather, anywhere else outside of this area does, especially in Canada. These tips will make sure your winter driving is safe and optimized.
