Elon Musk Joins Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Now on X
Donald Trump, in a recent statement as President-elect, announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead a new government branch called the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE).
This department aims to streamline the U.S. government by cutting wasteful spending, reducing bureaucracy, and restructuring federal agencies. Trump highlighted this as a major part of his “Save America” movement, which seeks to make government more efficient and accountable to “the people.”
Musk and Ramaswamy’s efforts will focus on large-scale reforms, with the goal of slashing unnecessary expenses in the government’s $6.5 trillion budget. The changes are being compared to a modern-day “Manhattan Project” for efficiency, designed to transform how government operates by bringing in ideas from outside the usual government structure.
The new department has an official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @DOGE, where updates and information will be shared.
Trump has set a deadline for these reforms to be completed by July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. He describes this timeline as a gift to America—promising a leaner, more efficient government by that date.
News of DOGE coming to real life has sent the crypto memecoin Dogecoin supported by Musk surging in the past week, up 99%.
This remains yet another big project Musk is adding to his plate. We know he is the ultimate multi-tasker, but let’s see how this one plays out.
