Tesla saw a surge in Chinese sales in October, with 40,485 vehicles sold and a 1.8% share of the overall auto market, according to the latest data, notes Tesla observer, Roland Pircher.
The Tesla Model Y, in particular, showed remarkable performance, ranking as the second best-selling car in the country and making up 89% of Tesla’s sales. The Model 3, though smaller in sales numbers, accounted for the remaining 11%.
This October was Tesla’s best yet, with sales up 41% from the same month last year. It also marked Tesla’s third-best opening month of a quarter. Over the last three months, Tesla’s sales in China have increased by 9.3% compared to May through July, while year-to-date sales are up 7% over the same period last year.
By October, Tesla had already achieved 82% of its total sales from the previous year, setting it up for a strong finish in 2024.
China’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) market penetration now stands at 29.8%, and Tesla holds 6.0% of that segment. This continued growth reflects the strong demand for electric vehicles in China and Tesla’s steady momentum, particularly driven by the popularity of the Model Y.
