Tesla FSD 13 Release Date: This Week for Internal Testers
Tesla recently shared a rundown of its latest AI advancements, wrapping up October with notable upgrades and upcoming releases. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s new and coming soon, as noted by @Tesla AI on X.
The most notable is the release of Full Self-Driving (FSD) 13 this week for internal testers, ahead of a planned wider release by Thanksgiving next month.
Completed This Month:
- End-to-end highway driving: This feature, available with version 12.5.6.1, was rolled out to around 50,000 users, enhancing autonomous driving performance on highways.
- Cybertruck improvements: Tesla has fine-tuned Cybertruck’s responsiveness for a smoother driving experience.
- “We, Robot” Event: At this recent event, Tesla operated 50 autonomous cars, safely transporting over 2,000 attendees.
What’s Coming Soon:
- Expanded Highway Rollout: Tesla is gearing up to make end-to-end highway driving accessible to all AI4 users by early next week. The update will improve stop smoothness, cut down on intrusive weather alerts, and add other safety tweaks.
- City Driving Updates: AI3 city driving will see better performance with the 12.5.x model improvements.
- Actually Smart Summon: This feature will soon be available in Europe, China, and more areas, enabling cars to navigate complex summon commands.
- Version 13 Major Upgrades: Tesla’s v13 will introduce a series of significant advancements:
- Full-resolution video inputs at 36 Hz and neural network architecture enhancements.
- A 3x increase in model size and context length scaling, with even more robust data scaling.
- 5x more training power, thanks to the Cortex training cluster, powering improved predictive safety features, traffic control compliance, and navigation. This is the dedicated cluster built at Giga Texas.
- Audio inputs to better detect emergency vehicles and a newly designed controller for smoother, more precise handling.
- Enhanced parking options, allowing cars to handle spots, driveways, and garages.
- Improvements for camera cleanliness and dealing with blocked views.
CEO Elon Musk previously said that it would offer free upgrades for HW3/AI3 customers who purchased FSD to HW4/AI4, if the older hardware is unable to support a complete FSD. Let’s see how much more FSD support will be coming to HW3/AI3 vehicles in FSD 13.
Tesla noted that some of these upgrades have already reduced the need for driver intervention by four times since v12.5.4. The company expects to release v13.0 for internal users by the end of this week, with a wider release planned for Thanksgiving, which will include many of these new features. This is exciting news watching Tesla advance its autonomous tech, as we move towards robotaxis and the eventual launch of its CyberCab in in 2027.
