Pegasus Elite Unveils World’s First Global 5000 Jet with Starlink

Pegasus Elite Aviation now has the first Global 5000 jet equipped with SpaceX’s Starlink. This allows passengers to have a fast and reliable internet connection while flying, whether they’re working or streaming movies.

Pegasus worked with Thornton Aviation at Van Nuys Airport to install the Starlink system on the Global 5000. This jet is the first of its kind to have this setup approved by the FAA. While installing Starlink, Thornton Aviation also performed the aircraft’s five-year maintenance check, making good use of the downtime.

“Pegasus Elite Aviation now has the first Starlink-enabled Global 5000. This system can maintain a high-speed internet connection during flights. The aircraft will be available for private charter starting in October 2024 on our website,” said Adam Stanley, deputy CEO of Pegasus Elite Aviation. “Choosing a service provider with strong experience in avionics and maintenance was essential for this upgrade, and Thornton Aviation met all our needs.”

Thornton Aviation is no stranger to Starlink installations. They’ve already set up the system on other jets, including a Gulfstream 650 and a Bombardier Global Express. They also have several more Starlink projects lined up for various aircraft in the next three months.

Starlink works using a network of about 6,000 satellites in low Earth orbit, giving it global coverage. This system allows for download speeds of over 200 megabits per second, which is fast enough for HD streaming, video calls, and large file downloads—all while flying.

“Starlink’s connectivity, combined with the Global 5000’s range of 5,200 nautical miles, creates a unique flying experience,” Stanley added.

Vince Russo, Thornton Aviation’s director of avionics, said they’ve been expanding their offerings: “In the past six months, we’ve completed more than 20 installation projects, from small upgrades to full cabin systems. Our team’s skills in both avionics and maintenance make us an ideal choice for operators who want to get multiple jobs done during downtime.”

Thornton Aviation, an FAA-certified repair station, offers maintenance and avionics services for nearly all business aircraft types and is authorized by major brands like Honeywell, Collins, and Garmin.

“No matter what type of aircraft you have or what solutions you need for your cockpit and cabin, we’ve got you covered,” Russo concluded.
