Tesla Owner Criticizes FSD Rain Chime; Fix Coming in Update
A Tesla Cybertruck owner from Oregon, TWoodsy (@TGWoodsy), expressed frustration with the vehicle’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system on Saturday, citing frequent alerts during rainy conditions.
In a post on X, TWoodsy noted, “In Oregon, it rains 8 months of the year. It was a slight drizzle this morning, and the FSD ‘degraded’ chime dinged almost every minute. I stopped using FSD on the Cybertruck this morning because the chime was so frequent and annoying.”
He questioned whether Tesla would address the issue, adding, “If not, there is no way I am going to be able to use FSD through an Oregon fall/winter/spring.” For those in the Pacific Northwest, it rains a lot. The degraded issue always comes up when rain is blocking cameras and also during sunny periods where light directs into cameras. The chime is literally non-stop.
In response, Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of Autopilot and AI, assured that a solution is on the way. “Will be fixed in the upcoming release next week (v12.5.6.2),” Elluswamy said.
“Exactly! The truck drove fine, no problem. I just hated the chime! Haha,” replied TWoodsy to another user on X. We can attest that the bad weather chime is annoying. FSD and Autopilot usually still does well in rainy weather. But the chime is likely to make it so drivers remain vigilant and alert, even with FSD (Supervised) enabled. Let’s see if the next FSD 12.5.6.2 update will fix this issue.
