On October 15, Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of Autopilot and AI, shared impressive details from the company’s recent “We, Robot” event, where Tesla’s autonomous fleet took center stage.
Elluswamy revealed that 19 Cybercabs and 29 Model Ys operated entirely on their own, transporting over 2,000 attendees across 1,300 trips over a span of 3.5 hours—all without a single safety issue.
“It was really amazing to see users take the robotaxis for granted,” Elluswamy said. “People didn’t hesitate to walk alongside or in front of the vehicles, treating them just as they would human-driven cars. It was incredible to see the robotaxis interacting seamlessly with each other.”
Elluswamy noted that the autonomy on display was powered by AI software close to production-ready or set to be rolled out soon with Tesla’s v13 update.
Pulling off the event required significant effort from Tesla’s team, which Elluswamy described as “super motivating” as they prepare to bring the technology to the public.
Let’s wait and see when Full Self-Driving (FSD) 13 update will be released. FSD continues to get incremental updates and keeps getting better and better.
