No, Geico Isn’t Dropping Tesla Cybertruck Insurance—Here’s the Truth
A rumor circulating on Reddit claimed that Geico is no longer offering car insurance for Tesla Cybertrucks, sparking concerns among potential owners of the vehicle.
The post, which featured a now-deleted screenshot from the user @blkturtle7m on X, stated that “this type of vehicle doesn’t meet our underwriting guidelines.”
In response, Geico told Jalopnik and Quartz that the company has not stopped insuring Cybertrucks. “Tesla has private passenger automobile (PPA) insurance available for the Tesla Cybertruck. Customers can receive a quote directly on GEICO.com or by contacting our team directly via phone,” the insurer clarified.
Geico explained that some customers may have received notices stating that their PPA insurance would not be renewed due to the Cybertruck’s gross weight and potential challenges with parts availability for repairs.
However, the company stressed that these policies are still available through their commercial insurance division and are now being offered through PPA as well.
Geico will be reaching out to any affected customers who received non-renewal notices to clarify the availability of Cybertruck coverage. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, folks.
