Tesla has made changes to its vehicle line up in Canada, adding a new Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant to the Model 3 and Model Y.
This follows a similar move made in the UK and the US. The Model 3 and Model Y RWD are no longer available and with it ends LFP batteries, which originated from builds in China at Giga Shanghai.
With Canada and the US slapping tariffs on Chinese-made EVs, this has affected Tesla vehicles made at Giga Shanghai.

The Model Y Long Range RWD starts at $59,990 CAD and qualifies for the $5,000 federal iZEV rebate. The new builds includes 525km of range, top speed of 217km/h, goes 0-100 kph in 6.9 seconds.
The Model 3 Long Range RWD starts at $54,990 CAD, which is a $4,000 price increase compared to the outgoing Model 3 RWD. It too also qualifies for the federal $5,000 iZEV rebate. Range is now estimated at 584km, which is 161km more than the outgoing Model 3 RWD that was made at Giga Shanghai in China. The 0-100 kph time is 5.2 seconds.
Tesla is quickly pivoting to make up for the new tariffs on EVs made in China. For now, Giga Shanghai exports won’t be coming back to Canada and the U.S., due to the new tariffs.
