Tesla Rolling Out FSD 12.5.1 to All, HW3 Support in 10 Days

Tesla has announced the wide release of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) 12.5.1 software, beginning on July 29. CEO Elon Musk urged Tesla owners to connect their vehicles to WiFi to receive the software update, version 2024.20.15.

When questioned about the rollout for HW3 (Hardware 3) vehicles, Musk explained, “It takes considerable software effort to optimize the code enough to run on HW3. It also needs to be validated separately. Estimated rollout is about 10 days.” Let’s hope this timeline sticks to about 10 days, which sounds like the new “two weeks”.

This update marks a significant step in Tesla’s autonomous driving technology, as the company continues to refine and enhance the performance of its FSD software. The upcoming HW3 update aims to bring similar improvements to older hardware versions, ensuring a broader range of Tesla owners benefit from the advancements.

Musk said today, “12.5 is awesome,” while testers such as Chuck Cook, who recently purchased a new Model Y to gain access to FSD 12.5 (as HW4 is required), said his first drives were “buttery smooth”, calling the new version the “biggest jump between versions I have seen so far.”

As for Cybertruck, Musk previously stated owners will get FSD 12.5.1 in two weeks, about mid-August.
