Tesla Leads in EV Mobile App Rankings, Reports J.D. Power

Tesla mobile app best

Tesla has been recognized as the top performer in both the overall and premium electric vehicle mobile app categories, according to the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. OEM EV App Report.

The report made available last week shows an increase in the use of automakers’ mobile apps, with 90% of EV owners now using these apps, up from 88% in 2023 and 81% in 2022.

“Manufacturers have improved the performance and experience of EV mobile apps by identifying opportunities in features, usability, and connectivity,” said Jason Norton, director of benchmark consulting at J.D. Power, in a statement. “However, there remains a need to focus on the specific needs of EV owners to further enhance user experience and trust.”

The report highlighted that 38% of EV owners experienced connectivity issues, a figure unchanged from last year. Notably, 35% of Tesla owners reported connection problems, an increase from 30% in 2023 and 20% in 2022, indicating that growing app usage may be straining Tesla’s network capacity.

Additionally, 62% of Tesla owners stated that the availability of a smartphone app influenced their purchase decision, compared to 34% of non-Tesla owners. You can control everything to do with your Tesla right from the mobile app. Sentry Mode recordings and seeing cameras in real-time are a huge advantage.

Tesla achieved the highest score in the premium brand segment with 847 points on a 1,000-point scale, followed by Mercedes me connect with 843 points and My BMW with 834 points.

The Tesla mobile app keeps getting updates, just like the company’s vehicles. The app constantly is being tweaked by Tesla and there’s no surprise the lead they’ve built over traditional automakers.

In the mass market segment, MyHyundai with Bluelink led with a score of 835, while Kia Access and FordPass followed with 829 and 810 points, respectively. The report is based on insights from nearly 1,300 U.S. EV owners surveyed in April and May 2024, focusing on app usage, feature desirability, and overall execution.
