Tesla Model Y Tops All Automakers in 2023 Global Production

In a recent study conducted by the French EV research firm Inovev, Tesla’s Model Y was identified as the most-produced vehicle globally in 2023, surpassing the Toyota RAV4 and Ford’s F-Series trucks.

The analysis highlighted the production and registration figures for vehicles, with the Tesla Model Y leading at 1,137,885 units produced, followed by the Toyota RAV4 and Ford F-Series at 989,517 and 933,198 units, respectively.

Other notable mentions in the top 25 include Toyota Corolla, Honda CR-V, and the BYD Song, marking a significant shift in global vehicle production trends, reports Autoblog.

Tesla’s achievement extends to sales figures as well, with the Model Y selling approximately 1.23 million units last year. Although these numbers do not represent the entire sales or production statistics of automakers, they underscore the rising dominance of electric vehicles (EVs) in the global market.

BYD, a Chinese automaker, produced over 3 million vehicles in 2023, surpassing Tesla’s total production of 1.84 million cars. But this number includes hybrids from BYD, compared to Tesla’s all-battery EV lineup.

Despite BYD’s larger production volume and its strong market share in China, Tesla’s performance in the global market, particularly with the Model Y and Model 3 securing spots in the top ten most-produced vehicles, reflects the company’s significant impact on the automotive industry.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk had predicted the Model Y was set to become the world’s best-selling car, of any kind. That prediction has come true and was emphasized by the company during its Q4 earnings. The Model Y is a highly-sought after EV given its extra cabin space compared to the Model 3. Tesla is also able to manufacture the car at high-volume, which is an impressive feat on its own.
