Tesla is set to open a regional distribution center in Fountain Inn, Greenville County, marking the company’s first significant operational investment in South Carolina.

The facility, scheduled to open in early 2024, reinforces the growing economic influence of the automotive and electric vehicle (EV) sector in the Upstate region.

Located at Fox Hill Business Park, the Class A business and industrial park operational since 2020, the Tesla center will be established in partnership with The Sudler Companies, a veteran-owned development firm. This collaboration marks the second joint venture between Tesla and The Sudler Companies, following a similar project near Tampa, Florida.

“Access to world-class labor, a friendly business environment, quality of life and proximity to more than 90 million people within one day’s drive combine to make Greenville County the vital and dynamic area it is known to be,” said Brian Sudler, Principal with The Sudler Companies, underscoring the strategic advantages of the Upstate as a logistics hub.

The new Tesla center in Fountain Inn will focus on the regional distribution of vehicle parts and is set to occupy 251,100 square feet of space within Fox Hill’s Building 3 (middle building up above). Although investment figures and job creation numbers remain undisclosed, Tesla has recently sought a Training Leader for the Greenville facility.

Tesla’s commitment to sustainable energy is evident in its operations, which include six factories globally and a workforce of over 100,000 employees. The company’s products encompass a range of energy solutions, from solar power and battery storage to electric vehicles designed for safety and enjoyment.

Strategically situated with access to major transportation routes and ports, Fox Hill Business Park is poised to serve the Southeast’s industrial and commercial markets effectively.

Kevin Landmesser, Interim CEO of the Greenville Area Development Corporation, highlighted the role of speculative development in attracting high-quality companies like Tesla to the region. He emphasized the potential for Tesla’s presence to elevate income levels and create quality jobs in Greenville County.

Fountain Inn Mayor GP McLeer expressed enthusiasm for Tesla’s decision, noting the job creation and supply chain benefits for local suppliers. “We continue to be proud of our community’s expanding role in the automotive industry and are excited to see Tesla begin operations,” McLeer stated, welcoming Tesla to the Palmetto State.
