SpaceX Starlink Gen 3 Dish Now Available Without Invite
SpaceX has updated its offerings, allowing US customers to purchase the third-generation Starlink dish directly from Starlink.com without needing an invitation. The new “standard” Starlink dish is priced at $599, matching the cost of the second-generation “standard actuated” dish, reports PCMag.
However, to acquire the new dish, consumers are required to subscribe to the “Roam” tier of Starlink service. This tier, starting at $150 per month, enables the use of the satellite internet system in multiple locations, but comes at a higher cost compared to the “Residential” tier, which ranges from $90 to $120 per month depending on location.
The Roam tier also offers the original second-gen dish alongside the new standard dish. For those seeking the new Starlink dish through the “Business” tier, they will face a higher monthly service charge starting at $250.
Existing Starlink customers have the option to purchase the third-generation dish via the Starlink shop, but they must switch to the Roam tier to do so. Currently, this product is only available in the US, Starlink’s largest market. A Starlink.com support page indicates that the Starlink Standard Kit will eventually be available in additional service plans and markets, though no specific dates have been provided.
The third-generation Starlink dish, as per an FCC filing, is designed to offer “a high performance solution for consumers.” However, SpaceX has not yet clarified if the new hardware provides an increase in internet speed, leaving some existing subscribers uncertain about the product’s value given its $599 price tag.
A notable feature of the third-generation dish is the inclusion of the “Gen 3” router, which supports Wi-Fi 6 and has two built-in Ethernet ports. The new dish is slightly larger and has eliminated self-rotating motors, designed instead to lay flat over a kickstand. This development marks a significant step in SpaceX’s efforts to expand and enhance its satellite internet service.
