Tesla has released its latest software update, version 2023.38, introducing new features that enhance user experience and vehicle functionality. The update brings two notable changes: Location Sharing and adjustments to windows during software updates, according to Tesla-Info.

The Location Sharing feature adds an icon at the top of the vehicle’s touchscreen whenever an app requests live location data of the Tesla vehicle. Users have the option to disable this feature by navigating to Controls > Safety > Allow Mobile Access. Turning off this setting will also disable access to the Tesla app. According to Tesla’s privacy policy, the company does not track the vehicle’s location when this setting is enabled.

Another feature in the 2023.38 update pertains to windows during a software update. The vehicle’s windows may adjust minimally to facilitate easier opening and closing of doors during the update process. The windows will return to their original position once the update is complete.

The new features were seen in a European rollout in Denmark and Finland and on Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.

Tesla continues to push software updates to enhance vehicle safety, user experience, and overall functionality.

If someone robs your vehicle, can they turn off the mobile access using the control menu to prevent you from tracking its location?

No. About a year ago anyone who was added as a Guest driver could have done that, but it has since been fixed. From Drive Tesla Canada

This vulnerability has been fixed by requiring the owner’s credentials to be entered before mobile access can be turned off. This level of security also extends to turning on PIN to Drive and setting up a PIN for glovebox access, which suffered from the same vulnerability.
