Saskatchewan First Nation Now Fully Connected to Starlink Internet
The Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada, announced that every home in its community is now connected to Starlink, the world’s fastest satellite internet constellation available to the public. The development comes after the community launched its partnership with Starlink in December 2022.
Located in the Qu’Appelle Valley, the community faced unique topographical challenges. Despite this, Starlink has effectively bridged the digital divide, offering a robust alternative to traditional fiber optics.
“By connecting our entire community with Starlink, we will be providing our children greater access to resource sharing tools and higher learning,” said Chief Melissa Tavita. She added that Muscowpetung is the only Indigenous community in Saskatchewan where every residence is connected to such a high-speed, transformative medium.
The connectivity extends beyond residential homes. Administration buildings, including the School, Health Centre, and Band Office, are also integrated into the network. This development opens up new economic opportunities and promises to enhance the quality of life for community members.
Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation is located about 50 minutes by car northwest of Regina.
The community expressed its gratitude to SpaceX, particularly to Bianca Reinhart and the SpaceX Communications Team, for their collaboration and support. Anaquod Videography was also thanked for their role in creating impactful video content that highlights this milestone.
