SpaceX Dispatches Over 650 Starlink Kits to Help Maui Recovery
In a dedicated effort to bolster connectivity and support ongoing recovery initiatives in Maui, SpaceX says it has dispatched and distributed over 650 Starlink kits to more than 40 organizations on the island.
Notably, Starlink shouldered the expedited shipping and distribution expenses for all kits and generously donated approximately 35% of the hardware costs. In collaboration with local retailers, the team is also striving to offer Starlink below its market price. Further assistance is promised as and when required.
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, took to X to emphasize the commitment of his companies to Hawaii’s welfare. He stated, “Tesla & SpaceX/Starlink doing our best to be helpful to Hawaii.”
Red Lightning, an organization that offers scalable medical equity and disaster aid solutions and training, it detailed how it is helping recovery efforts in Maui.
“Quick update from Maui: very productive day in Lahaina. On assessment, one of the major needs is communication in many areas. Many power lines are down and connectivity is hard to find,” said the company on LinkedIn.
“We bought 20 Starlink systems to bring internet connection. We successfully set up multiple today, and will continue to set more up in the next few days,” said the company.
“The Starlink team covered expedited shipping and distribution costs for all kits delivered to recovery efforts in Maui, donated ~35% of the hardware costs, and we are working with local retailers to make Starlink available below cost. More to come as needed!” said Starlink on X.
