Tesla Launches Universal Wall Connector to Charge All EVs [VIDEOS]
In October 2023, Tesla is set to begin shipping its Universal Wall Connector, a cutting-edge charging solution tailored not only for Tesla vehicles but also for other electric car brands in North America. This is one unit that can charge your Tesla and your other non-Tesla EV, saving owners from installing two different chargers.
Priced at $595 USD ($785 in Canada), this charger is an optimal fit for various settings including homes, apartments, hospitality venues, and workplaces.
The Universal Wall Connector stands out with its impressive features. Users can add up to 44 miles of range to their electric vehicle in an hour, courtesy of its 11.5 kW/48 amp output. Further, the device comes with an integrated J1772 adapter making it suitable for charging any electric vehicle. Tesla owners will appreciate the auto-sensing handle which seamlessly opens a Tesla charge port.
Additionally, vehicle owners can monitor and manage their charging schedules using the Tesla app, which is set to release enhanced features later this year. The connector’s Wi-Fi connectivity ensures users benefit from over-the-air updates, remote diagnostics, and access controls.
Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, it offers variable amperage configurations based on the installation site and even supports power-sharing with up to six Wall Connectors. The package includes a 24-foot cable and offers a four-year warranty for residential applications.
Potential buyers should note that installation requires a qualified electrician. To facilitate this, Tesla provides a directory of over 1,000 certified installers to help users request installation quotes.
For commercial properties, Tesla encourages property managers, developers, and commercial real estate owners to consider joining Tesla’s Charging Partners network. By installing the Wall Connector on their premises, businesses can offer either public or private EV charging stations. This not only serves as a valuable amenity for attracting customers but also offers pay-per-use functionality and round-the-clock remote monitoring.
