Starlink Gen 3 Router Specs Revealed: Mesh WiFi 6 System
Starlink has unveiled its new Gen 3 WiFi Router, designed to offer enhanced connectivity and performance. The router, compatible with Standard Starlink Kits, comes with an array of features and specifications that set it apart from its predecessors.
The Gen 3 Router package includes the router itself, a Starlink Plug, an RJ45 Cover, a Starlink Gen 3 Router Cable (1.5 m or 4.92 ft), and a Power Supply. The router is compact, with product dimensions of 2.4” x 11.8” x 4.7” or 55 x 300 x 120 mm, and weighs 2.2 lbs or 1 kg.
The router is equipped with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax WiFi technology, marking it as a WiFi 6 generation device. It operates on a Tri Band 4 x 4 MU-MIMO radio, providing robust and reliable connectivity. The router features two latching Ethernet LAN ports with a removable cover, offering flexibility for wired connections.
The Gen 3 Router is built to withstand a wide range of operating temperatures, from -22°F to 122°F or -30°C to 50°C. It is also IP56 rated, making it water-resistant and suitable for indoor use. The router’s power indicator is an LED located on the faceplate in the left corner.
One of the standout features of the Gen 3 Router is its mesh compatibility. It is compatible with Starlink Gen 2 and Gen 3 Mesh nodes—although it does not support 3rd party mesh systems. That means your Eero or Google WiFi won’t be compatible, for example.
The Starlink Gen 3 router can connect up to 235 devices, making it a versatile choice for both home and office environments.
The Gen 3 Router also prioritizes security with WPA2 encryption, ensuring that your data and online activities are protected.
The specs of the Starlink Gen 3 Router and its setup guide were revealed by a user on Reddit, that received an email from SpaceX asking them to try it out early—but at a cost of $200 USD.
“As an early Starlink customer, you’re invited to a limited launch of our next generation WiFi router,” read an email from SpaceX.
“We would love to hear about your experience, including setup, performance, or any other recommendations you may have, as these will be the first routers produced,” it continued. “To order, click the button below. You may order up to 3 routers per account. This offer applies only to your Starlink account.”
According to SpaceX, “the new Gen 3 router introduces WiFi 6 and tri-band radios to Starlink. With improved range, performance, and device support, the Starlink Gen 3 router will extend your WiFi network throughout your home to provide a more consistent and reliable connection with faster speeds.”
Starlink says “the Gen 3 router can replace your current router, and multiple Gen 3 routers can be meshed together to extend the range of your WiFi network.”
