Tesla Korea Launches Model Y RWD; Model 3 Sales Unavailable
Tesla Korea has launched the sale of Model Y Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) vehicles, which are being manufactured at Tesla’s Giga Shanghai factory in China, according to a tweet by @Tslachan. This move marks a significant development in Tesla’s expansion plans in the Korean market.
The Model Y RWD is priced around $45,000 and qualifies for both national and local government subsidies in Korea. This new offering aims to attract a broader customer base by providing a more affordable variant of Tesla’s popular electric SUV.
Interestingly, with the introduction of Model Y RWD sales, Tesla Korea has put a halt to orders for other Model Y variants. The Model Y Long Range and Performance trims are currently not available for order in Korea, with indications on the website suggesting that they may become orderable again in 2024. The reason behind this sudden halt remains unclear.

Model Y RWD delivery estimates are pegged at August-September 2023.
Furthermore, updates on Model 3 sales in Korea reveal that ordering for all trims of Model 3 is currently not possible. The website states, “We will inform you again when it is available for sale,” signaling a future announcement for the resumption of Model 3 sales.
Tesla kicked off Model Y sales in South Korea back in February 2021. Back in May, rumors pointed the Model Y RWD would launch in Korea, from Giga Shanghai, and now we know that was indeed accurate.
