Tesla today achieved a production milestone, hitting 4 million total cars built.

The announcement was made by Tom Zhu, the company’s new global production chief speaking at Investor Day.

Zhu said the accomplishment was made “early this morning” at Giga Texas.

Tesla later shared a video of the Giga Texas team celebrating:

It took Tesla 12 years to produce its first millionth car. But this time has been reduced to just 18 months to hit 2 million.

Tesla’s 3 million car took 11 months to build, while the 4 million car took less than seven months.

“Kudos to the team!” said Zhu, who also added Tesla’s Fremont factory also just hit a new daily production record.

Tesla said it also built an in-house 5G private network at Giga Berlin, to learn and deal with manufacturing issues. This will soon be implemented at other Gigafactories globally.
