Elon Musk announced at Investor Day’s Q&A session that “we are excited to announce we are going to be building a Gigafactory in Mexico”, located near Monterrey in the state of Nuevo Leon.
Yesterday, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador spilled the beans on the Gigafactory announcement, noting Tesla would mention it officially on Investor Day.
“He was very responsive, understanding our concerns and accepting our proposals,” AMLO said, referring to his phone call with Musk. “I want to thank Mr. Elon Musk for being very respectful, attentive and understanding of the importance of addressing the problem of water scarcity.”
Gigafactory Mexico joins Tesla’s latest Gigafactories in China, Germany, Texas, Nevada and New York. Tesla also has a major factory in Fremont, California.
