Tesla Offers $5,000 Trade-in Credit for Customers to Give Up Unlimited Free Supercharging
Tesla started contacting legacy Model S and Model X owners by email to let them know about a new trade-in credit offer towards a new car. What’s the catch? You need to give up your unlimited free Supercharging miles, one of the best Tesla perks to date.
One email received by a Canadian Model X owner Gram J., reads, “as an early Model X owner, you are now eligible to exchange your unlimited free Supercharging miles for an additional $7,000 CAD on your vehicle’s trade-in value when you purchase a new Model S or Model X.”
In the U.S., this value is at $5,000 USD, according to a new page on Tesla’s website (via @SawyerMerritt) that outlines these “Ownership Loyalty Benefits”.
“Current Tesla Model S or Model X owners with active unlimited free Supercharging are eligible for an additional $5,000 toward their trade-in value. To qualify, owners must trade in their Model S or Model X with unlimited free Supercharging and purchase a new Model S or Model X,” explains Tesla.
How to check if you have unlimited Supercharging? Launch the Tesla app, then tap ‘Specs and Warranty.’
Once you trade-in your existing Model S or Model X, you’ll see your extra $5,000 USD or $7,000 CAD credit. With our new vehicle, you’ll be waving good-bye to unlimited Supercharging.
