American Cruise Lines announced on Wednesday it has added SpaceX’s Starlink Wi-Fi internet to its 2023 fleet of riverboats and small cruise ships.
Calling this a “major upgrade,” Starlink will offer high-speed internet for American Cruise Lines’ small ships nearly everywhere in the United States, from Alaska to the Florida Keys.
Starlink is a low-Earth orbit satellite constellation offering high-speed internet with low latency, essentially anywhere on Earth.
The cruise line said it beta-tested Starlink internet in 2022 and cruise guests who tried it “responded with rave reviews.”
All 2023 cruises will see Starlink Wi-Fi Internet as a complimentary service, part of American Cruise Lines’ all-inclusive value. The cruise company has 17 small ships and riverboats in 35 states, cruising both the west cost and east coast and all the rivers in between, accommodating just 100-190 passengers each.
