Twitter Suspends Account Tracking Elon Musk’s Private Jet

Twitter has suspended an account known for tracking Elon Musk’s private jet using publicly available data, according to a report from CNBC.

The @ElonJet Twitter account had reached over half a million followers and was run by Florida-based college student Jack Sweeney.

This comes after Musk has continually emphasized his position on free speech, even adding that he wouldn’t ban Sweeney’s account despite its risks.

In the past, Musk claimed he would not do away with the @ElonJet account because he was such a firm supporter of free speech. He also called the account a “direct personal safety risk.”

“Well it appears @ElonJet is suspended,” Sweeney wrote in a tweet on Wednesday, adding that users could follow the account on other platforms.

Earlier this month, Sweeney said that his account had been shadow-banned, meaning the reach of the account was being hindered by Twitter. Just days later, Sweeney noted that the @ElonJet account had stopped being hidden or suppressed “in any way.”

Sweeney said that Musk at one time also offered to pay him $5,000 to take the account down, due to it being a safety risk.

“Eventually, the last message from him was ‘It doesn’t feel right to take this down,’” Sweeney said.

Sweeney has similar flight-tracking accounts for other public figures, including Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and his Instagram account tracking Musk’s travels still seems to be operational.
