The dearMoon project to fly a crew of civilians around the moon has revealed its team members, ahead of the planned 2023 launch.

SpaceX on Friday announced plans to launch the dearMoon mission, which includes ten crewmembers led by Japanese entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa (via Twitter).

The crew is made up of artists, content creators, and athletes, and it includes two backup crew roles in case any of the first ten have to back out.

dearMoon is expected to be the Starship spacecraft’s first human launch, during which the group will be flown around the moon and within 200km of the lunar surface before returning to Earth.

SpaceX will launch Starship atop its Super Heavy rocket.

The mission will last over a week and the crew is expected to bring their experiences back with them to help inspire those on Earth. dearMoon saw over a million people from 249 countries apply to be a part of the crew before the roster was finalized.

The crew will comprise Rhiannon Adam, Steve Aoki, Yemi A.D., Tim Dodd, Brendan Hall, Karim Iliya, Choi Seung Hyun, Dev D. Joshi, Kaitlyn Farrington, and Miyu.

A timeline for the launch is yet to be announced, though early estimates place it sometime in 2023.
