Tesla Bot Leg Actuator Lifts Grand Piano, While Designer Plays Song On It [VIDEO]
Tesla has shared a new video on its YouTube channel, showing its Optimum robot’s leg actuator lifting a half-ton piano.
“One of Tesla Bot’s two primary leg actuators lifting a half-ton/500kg concert grand piano. Piano recital by Tesla Principal Motor Designer, Konstantinos,” said Tesla, with the designer playing the iconic classical song Nocturnes, Op. 9: No. 2 in E-Flat Major, by Frédéric Chopin.
Konstantinos Laskaris is the Principal Motor Designer at Tesla and has worked at the company for over 10 years.
Last month, Tesla unveiled its Optimus robot prototype, which it estimated would cost less than $20,000 USD. The demo was at the company’s 2022 AI Day, where we saw the Tesla Robot lifting boxes, water plants and working in a factory. The first version of Optimus was made using off-the-shelf parts, but the final version will be built with Tesla-made actuators, as seen in the video above.
Tesla actually shared a similar video after AI Day of its actuator lifting a grand piano, but it did not include Konstantinos playing on the instrument.

Optimum will have 200+ degrees of body freedom and its hands will have 11 degrees of freedom and the robot will have 28 structural actuators. Tesla CEO Elon Musk believes the robot’s potential is worth more than its car business.
